Ah, the sun. I love waking up to it. It's so beautiful if you watch it set. Oops, off track :-). So the sun is really important and vital to us humans. Without it, there would be no day. The sun is the hub of the solar system and all the planets (mentioned in the earlier post) orbit around it. To orbit means to revolve. The sun is so big that about 1.3 million earths could fit inside it. The sun is also really hot. The temperature is about 9941 degrees Fahrenheit. Sometimes a special event occurs and the moon actually covers up the sun in the day. This is called a solar eclipse. Have you wondered why the moon looks like it's glowing? It's because the sun's light is reflected of the moon. The sun gives us light and heat and without it,
- It would be night every day.
- You'd be freezing.
We would probably also drift away from the galaxy. So the next time you wake up seeing the morning sun, you've got somebody, or more, something to thank.
The sun's layers and how hot each layer is.
(Note that K stands for Kelvin, the unit used to measure heat)
